For those of you who don't know me, I'm Lancewing's writing's partner for Tales Season 2... So... My favorite G2 pony is Sweetheart... My favorite G2 episode is Stand By Me... Despite it driving me crazy on how everypony is so quick to leave poor Sweetheart (except Starlight). My favorite MLP series is...FiM... Sorry. My favorite FiM pony is Princess Twilight Sparkle... Yeah... you'd think I'd like Fluttershy or Bright Eyes considering...but whatevs. I've been a brony for about a year and a half. I've seen about half of Tales, started maybe six months ago? My avatar is Ramjet from Hasbros Transformers. So... That's about it. Glad to be here

I'm not really that familiar with the TF fandom, but yeah I guess so! well... theres a comic and toy series known as g2...but has characters from g1... the series after g2 is called the beast era...but its still set in g1... does tales share any connections to the first cartoon? other than character designs? The "generations" in the MLP fandom refers to the physical molds used to create the toy ponies - it has nothing to do with the TV shows (although to be fair, the original show and Tales do share similar art styles for both their cartoons and comics, especially in comparison to other gens). Thus Gen 1 refers to the original molds from the 80s - from which the Tales girls were made. This seems to be a pretty simple reference site if you're curious - www.strawberryreef.com/There was never any confusion over which generations ponies came from until FiM came along, to be honest. For whatever reason, fans of FiM started arguing with MLP collectors (who'd been around since the 80s) that their classification system for the generations was wrong, and that Tales should be considered G2. Basically FiM fans wanted to base the gens on the TV shows, completely ignoring the already established system that collectors had in place at that time. Hence why if you talk to collectors, they'll probably be super irritated if you call Tales G2, because they've already argued this case to death with FiM fans who didn't know MLP existed until FiM came out.

I noticed the G2 thing too, but... It's more fun to see everyone else jump on it. (3

Thanks Kat, and she's pretty much explained the Gen difference in MLP about as good as I can.

Of course, Tales is often mistaken as G2 due to a DVD cover depicting them as G2 characters.
