A New Friend
Teddy, Flare, and Scout were on their way to the girls’ clubhouse. “Are you sure they’ll let Scout in?” Flare asked.
“Absolutely, Sweetheart told me that all the girls would be fine with it.”
“Okay…”
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
Flare nodded.
“It’s just that you look pretty nervous.”
“I’ll be okay, rea- OOF!”
Flare looked up to see who had bumped into her, and saw Logan, a white pony with a rainbow mane. She had never seen him before, and this made her extremely nervous.
“Oh...I’m sorry…” Logan apologized.
“Yeah, why doncha watch where you’re goin’.” Teddy glared at Logan.
“Uh...I’m sorry.” Logan tried to get up and attempted to help Flare up, but Teddy glared at him.
“Teddy…” Flare spoke up, “It was an accident..."
“But-” He then remembered what had happened a few days ago, how he said that he was going to change. “Sorry Logan...just a little worried about Flare.”
“Okay… So what brings you here?”
“The girls invited Flare to join them and I was taking her over.” Teddy explained.
“Oh. Okay. Do you want me to go with you?”
Flare stuttered, “Um… I-I think I’ll be okay…”
“Okay...Sure?”
“Um...y-yes, I am.”
“Okay…” With that Logan went on his way.
When they reached the clubhouse, Sweetheart was waiting outside for them. “Why hello Flare, Teddy.”
Teddy smiled, “Hey Sweetheart.”
“We’ve been expecting you, Flare.” Sweetheart told Flare.
“Y-You have?”
“Well, yes. Didn’t Teddy tell you?”
“Well, he did say ‘invite’.”
“Exactly. So would you like to come in?”
“I guess… But can Scout come with me?”
“Of course.” Sweetheart smiled.
“O-Okay…”
Flare walked inside. All the girls were gathered around a small table, talking (rather loudly) about something… Flare moved closer to try and hear what they were saying.
Suddenly, the sound of a sthingy lightly hitting a teacup is heard along with Starlight’s voice saying, “Order, order. Everyone settle down.”
That quickly silenced everyone.
“I see Flare’s arrived.”
Flare nodded and shyly waved.
“Bon Bon, could you show Flare to her seat?”
Bon Bon nodded and stood up to show Flare to her seat. Once she got Flare settled in, she returned to her own seat.
“So...shall we continue discussing Ace or talk about something else?” Clover asked.
“We’re still going to talk about Ace.” Starlight replied.
“Why? He’s just a pretty boy jerk.” Melody pointed out.
“Well, Teddy was able to change. Why not Ace?”
“He’s worse than Teddy. Remember the lemonade stand war? Ace was still trying to figure out a way to beat us, even though they lost.”
“But he can still change, he was real nice to me when we had dinner that one time.”
“That’s because you were second to me,” Melody said, “Why do you have to be so biased to him?”
“Why do you have to be so against him?”
“Cuz he’s a jerk, for one.”
“And he has NO sense of sportsmanship,” Bon Bon pointed out, “He even tricked me into giving him MY lemonade recipe!”
“We’ve all done bad things,” Sweetheart pointed out, “I’m sure now he must be really, truly sorry for what he did.”
“Well I have yet to get an apology from him, at least Teddy did that with me. He also told me that he and Flare were going to move, but then he found out that they were staying when he got home.”
“But shouldn’t we give Ace a chance?”
“Haven’t we already?” Melody pointed out.
“I don’t think we’ve given him one chance…” Sweetheart noted.
“All in favor?” Starlight asked before she raised her hoof. Bright Eyes, Sweetheart, and Patch followed suit. “All oppose?” The remainder of the room, except for Flare, raised their hooves.
“Alright, so Ace will be a member.” Starlight noted.
“What?! But Flare didn’t vote.” Melody pointed out.
“She doesn’t have to vote if she doesn’t want to.” Patch replied.
“I call bias,” Bon Bon said.
“What’s bias?” Flare asked.
Bright Eyes answered, “When a pony is biased, it means that his or her choices are based on a personal preference or belief.”
“Oh.”
“That’s pretty much why I will be neutral when the time for the soccer tournament comes because I will have friends on both the Ponyland and Tropical Island teams.”
“But you have MORE friends on the Ponyland team.” Patch pointed out.
“And that’s why I will not support a particular side; too much conflict.”
Patch rolled her eyes.
“Kinda wonder why she let Ace, who’s ON the Ponyland team, in…” Melody raised an eyebrow.
“Hey, I’m not much of a fan. Now Lancer on the other hoof…”
“Yes...we know about you and Lancer…”
Flare merely scratched her head.
“...Flare hasn’t…” Bright Eyes sheepishly pointed out.
“Hasn’t what?” Flare asked.
“You haven’t heard about my relationship with Lancer.”
“Relationship?”
“Yeah… We really like each other.”
“You do?”
"Yeah..."
"Like Teddy and Sweetheart?"
“Yes.”
"Oh..."
"And like how Starlight likes Ace." Melody giggled.
Starlight glared at Melody. After that little argument, she was not in the mood.
"Can Teddy be a member?" Flare suddenly asked.
Everyone looked at each other. Should they?
"Well...Ace is gonna be one, can't get much worse," Clover said.
A raindrop hit Clover’s nose the moment she said that. Everyone looked up, then out the window. Sure enough, it was raining.
“Clover!” Melody yelled, “Did you have to jinx it?”
"Sorry! I didn't mean to..."
“I got it,” Patch said as she grabbed a bucket and placed it in Clover’s place.
"Very funny."
"What? You'll need it."
“Maybe we should patch up the roof,” Starlight said trying to hold a laugh.
“Good i- HEY!” Patch yelled.
"Sorry, couldn't resist."
"Yes, you could..."
The meeting let out early in order for the girls to fix the roof. Flare and Scout stayed indoors because of their lack of experience in construction, and Clover and Sweetheart stayed to watch them, mainly because they were afraid of Clover jinxing something else. Flare was looking around the clubhouse, trying to learn the place, and Scout was close by her side.
Soon, there was a knock at the door. “I’ll get it,” Clover said. She went over to the door and opened it, revealing Logan in a yellow raincoat, wearing rain boots. “Hi Logan.”
“Hey Clover, came over to see how everything was going.”
“Well, the others are fixing the leak in the roof.” Clover replied.
“Oh...do they need help?”
“Uh...maybe, I dunno…”
“Well, maybe I should check on them just to be safe.” Logan went over to the side of the house and Clover closed the door.
After a few moments, Logan returned and opened the door. “Well...guess they didn’t need my help.”
“Oh, well, would you like to stay in here?”
“I think that sounds good,” he said. “Thank you.”
He stepped inside and saw Flare looking out the window. “Hello there,” He greeted.
Flare jumped at the voice, but calmed a bit when she saw Logan. “H-hello…”
“You’re Teddy’s sister, right?”
“Yes...I am… And you’re Logan?”
“Yes.”
“...And you live near here?”
“Yup… Next door…”
“Oh… I see.”
“Yeah…”
Flare fiddled with her front hooves. “So...I’m sorry my brother was mean to you…”
“Don’t mention it. It happens sometimes.”
“Well...still...it wasn’t nice.”
"Well...he did apologize afterwards, so it's fine."
"I guess..."
"Is Teddy treating you okay?”
“Y-yeah… He is.”
"Good... Just wanted to make sure..."
Flare nodded.
"So...do you have any other siblings besides Teddy?"
"No, just Teddy."
“Okay… Parents?”
"I have a mom and a dad. What about you?"
“I have a mom and dad too.”
"Oh...do you have any brothers or sisters?"
“I think I already said that,” she said with a giggle.
"Oh..." Logan blushed, "Sorry."
"It's fine." Flare smiled.
Logan blushed again, "Y-you have a nice smile..."
“Uh… Thank you.”
Logan mentally facehoofed, 'That was dumb!'
"Are you two doing okay?" Sweetheart asked.
"We are." Flare answered.
"Okay."
Flare looked to Logan. "Logan?"
"Yes?"
"Could...we be friends?"
“Sure.”
"Really?"
"Yeah..."
"Th-thank you..."
"No problem." Logan smiled.
