Just curious if any of you guys are familiar with Animorphs? I just went through the entire series last year (I was too old for the target demographic when it came out, but one of the authors is a favourite of mine now and I wanted to look up his past work) and ever since had gotten myself obsessed with doing a cross-over (of sorts) with the Tales kids. Actually just Ace and Brighteyes to start (and the others would get involved later). However I don't know anyone who's familiar with both series, so I've pretty much kept this to myself. But I figured if anyone here was interested, I could post my idea and perhaps even start writing some of it. And for those with no clue - it's a series about a group of kids who encounter an alien who "gifts" them with the power to morph into any animal they touch, so they can continue the fight against an invading race of aliens. It's a fantastic series (as far as storyline; since it was aimed at the 9-12 demographic starting out, the writing is super simple and there are tons of plot holes, but it's easy enough to ignore if you go into it realizing that and focusing on the actual story). I'm totally in love with the whole scenario and have been contemplating rambling to friends about it anyway, but never quite got around to typing anything out. So if any of you are familiar with it let me know (and if you're not familiar but still interested, let me know and I'll include a more in-depth explanation of the scenario before launching into what happens in my version of things). I'll probably end up writing some of it some day anyway, but figured I'd ask if anyone was interested.

I actually haven't seen anything called Animorphs. But that sounds very interesting; I'll have to check it out. I have a bit of a watchlist right now, but I'll give it a shot while I try Transformers. 8)

There was a one season TV show - I would suggest not bothering (haven't watched it myself but everyone hates it). And I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it anyway, it's from the 90's. The books are fantastic (and quick to get through since they're very simple and not that long). I was going to suggest reading the Wikipedia page on the series if you wanted to get more of an idea, but it has some major spoilers in case you ever wanted to read the books, so I wouldn't do that either, unless you don't mind spoilers.

Okey dokey lokey! As soon as I'm done typing a reply to your massive shipping post, I'll get to reading the Wikipedia page. Until then, why don't you explain what you were thinking for the Tales adaptation of it?

Okay so my idea is this: They're about 15 when this thing starts. Brighteyes is a huge nerd (top of the class in just about everything) so sometimes she'll get harassed by some of the more popular kids at school (nothing terrible, because she's very confident, just random harassing at times when said other kids have nothing better to do). Ace, on the other hand, is super popular (due to sports mostly). So one day when BE is walking home after school, some girls see her and start bothering her. She basically tells them to STFU and leave her alone, but they keep bothering her. Ace comes along the same path, sees them bothering her, and also tells them to STFU and leave BE alone. Seeing that the girls know Ace (and of course all have at least something of a crush on him) they fake apologize and say they were just joking. They leave then, and BE grudgingly thanks him for his help (though of course is all "I can take care of myself, but thanks, I guess") and he decides to stick around and pester her a bit himself (they're not really friends, but they're friendly, due to their other friends). So they walk along and talk about schoolwork (they're in the same science class and chat about their upcoming research assignment) which is when they come across the alien who grants them the ability to morph into animals. He explains all about the other alien race, warns them about the ongoing war over their planet (that everyone is oblivious to) and tells them to hide because some other alien is coming to finish him off. At first they don't believe a word of it, but they do hear that something is approaching, so they hide and wait. They watch as the guy's story is actually confirmed, and he's killed by this other alien. They stay there for a while until everyone has cleared, at which point they just get out of the area. They don't even talk to each other about what happened at first, not until they get to BE's house. Only then do they start questioning what they just saw. After talking for a while they're both in disbelief and have convinced themselves they imagined the whole thing. So they part ways. But that first night Ace keeps thinking about what happened, to the point that he can't sleep. His neighbours have a cat which roams the neighbourhood at night, so he looks for it and decides to test out the story for himself. He touches the cat and absorbs the DNA (animals go slack when this occurs, which is the only reason why he even entertains the notion of testing out the actual transforming). So he goes back to his room and decides to try it out - and to his amazement and shock, he actually morphs into the cat. So he spends a bit of time running around, then transforms back and is beside himself with excitement that it's real. He sits next to BE in science the next morning (which he never does) and quietly tells her that the whole thing was true, and that he morphed a cat during the night. She thinks he's BS'ing her of course, but agrees to meet him at lunch so he can show her. After she sees it, she of course believes him, which for her super logical science-oriented brain, is really hard for her to grasp. From that point on they start investigating the other invading race, and get caught up in the war themselves. So they start out as barely friends, but over the course of time start pulling away from their other friends and hanging out together (they're never entirely sure if their friends have been converted by the aliens or not, so they can only really trust each other). Ace eventually starts skipping practices for his sports teams, and BE's grades start to slip. This makes their school principal suspicious (and they soon find out he's controlled by the aliens). So it's a struggle for them to try and maintain their normal lives while fighting this war that no one else knows about. It gets so hard for them to hide their need to hang out all the time, so eventually they even start to fake date each other, so they can have a legit reason for always being together. Eventually some of the other kids get drawn into their group (right now I'm thinking they'll bring in Starlight, Melody, and Lancer; one or two of the kids will probably end up being converted by the aliens, haven't decided yet). But Ace and BE always remain the leaders of their renegade little group, shouldering all the responsibility and emotional burden. At one point things get super angsty (I'll describe that later, or I might just write it out as fic because I'm dying to write this one particular scene) but eventually they end up with a semi-happy ending. Anyway I'll write more later.

Sounds really interesting! Seeing Bright Eyes and Ace having a friendship would be really cool, because they complement each other (though still wouldn't get along easily). If you want to write it, please do! Whatever you choose to work on will be high on my read-list.
Actually, your story reminds me vaguely of this one story I've had difficulty writing for a while (and has been on and off for me). Weird things go on in the Old Woods and Dark Forest that nobody can explain, including unusual deaths and injuries (such as by electrocution or burns). The ponies who do get out for the most part end up debilitated, anywhere from amnesia of a particular event to being driven totally insane, and these occurrences stay common, despite the fact that nobody goes into the woods.
This stuff affects the schoolhouse itself, too. Someone important gets in trouble though, and being as reckless as she is, Patch runs in to confront whatever took them away on the vague chance of them being alive (and not really thinking it through). She gets attacked by some unnatural-looking purple bats that were surrounding said pony, and gets poisoned by them (like the pony was.) The only reason she gets out alive at all is because she's helped by a little dinosaur with a bulb on its back who she eventually becomes Bulbasaur, the first-ever Pokemon.
It took ages to come up with an idea, but then I figured out that the Pokemon world origin could be applied to pony, so yeah. Also, this post took forever to put into writing. ('3(
