Or so bored with life that he quickly goes off the slope of morality and gains delusions of godhood. As much of a jerk as Ace might have been in the show, even he still had his decent moments here and there. (Calling Bon Bon beautiful in the Masquerade for example).

Wow, man... that's heavy. He had is moments to be sure, and he was pretty darn cool in Birds of a Feather.

Oh no not Light's laugh - poor Brad Swaile gets asked to do that all the time to the point of it being annoying now, haha! The perils of VA'ing a crazy character. Anyway Ace is definitely not the sort of guy who'd succumb to any delusions of grandeur (though I do have to say that my friend and I do have a sociopathic version of Ace, of course; not linking to any of that here though because it's not something either of us want to share as it's pretty dark). He does just enough nice and thoughtful things for the others that he'll develop into a very well-rounded older male who's nicer than he was as a kid. He just needs to mature a little. Notes: I do usually visualize them as humans now, unless I'm specifically doing something in which I want them to be ponies. Speaking of which I did recently have a fully-pony dream about Ace, but I'll leave that to another reply. As for BB and metal - you don't have to be an aggressive person to like aggressive music! I've known my fair share of people into the metal or goth scene who were super shy and unsure of themselves (they're always the ones who never dress the part of course, so you'd have no idea). Besides - sometimes all it takes is for someone you have a crush on/really like to suggest a band or two to you (happened to me; I was more into just rock music, but the dude I really liked in grade 6 gave me a few albums of much heavier bands to listen to, and that eventually led to me liking really heavy music). Anyway in this she did grow up being like she was in the show, but as she approached her teenage years she was actively trying to shed her insecure/shy skin, so she started branching out into a lot of very different things. Metal stuck because her best friend (Teddy) was so into it. And yeah poor Corny usually does get no recognition! I keep meaning to include him more because I do like his character.

Okay so as mentioned above - I recently had a dream (real, legit dream - it was amazing) about the Tales kids as ponies. The dream actually took the shape of one of the comics - in my dream it was the last Tales comic ever made. It was (naturally, for me) focusing on Ace. The entire comic was about him, actually. Well it was about his mom and the guy she was dating. This scenario was actually way different than anything I've ever had for him, and to be honest I think it actually works really really well for the Ace from the cartoon. It's just he and his mom (wasn't sure what happened to his dad, the comic never clued me in on that) and his mom is a complete "soccer mom" - the sort of mother who puts her kids ahead of absolutely everything. She spends all her money on him and dedicates every second to whatever he needs (twofold reason: 1) she feels guilty about him not having a dad, so she tries to do all the dad things with him; 2) obsessing over her kid keeps her from feeling lonely since she's not dating anyone). She doesn't really put much effort into trying to look her best, and is very much a "what matters is how you are on the inside" sort of person. However in this comic she is dating someone, and is pretty sure this guy is going to propose to her soon! She and Ace are super excited (Ace gets along with the boyfriend really well and very much wants his mom to marry this guy) so they decide to have this big picnic at their house and invite all their friends, basically trying to create this awesome setting for this dude to propose to her. Everyone can pretty much see that these two are looking close to engagement, so all of his friends are expecting it to happen. So here's the slightly hilarious part (to me at least!) - in order to fully win this guy over, Ace convinces all of his guy friends (so Teddy, Lancer, and the other side guys) to dress up for this picnic - so they're all wearing top hats (seriously this part had me crying with laughter when I woke up, though I'm pretty sure it was inspired by a scene in one comic where Ace is wearing a top hat). Everyone is super into it, though - even Teddy thinks it's a cool idea! Ace basically wants this guy to think that he is a perfect kid who will make the greatest step-son ever! So things are going well, but then this other woman shows up who the guy used to date. She's younger and prettier than Ace's mom, except that she has twin boys (two years older than Ace) and they are absolute nightmares (the reason why they broke up). So the three of them show up to the picnic to try and win the guy back. So basically this guy has to choose between the not-so-hot mom with the awesome son, or the super hot mom with nightmare sons. Sadly this was split up over two comics, but the second one was never published so I never found out how it ended in my dream! Pretty safe to say I would imagine it was supposed to end with the dude proposing to Ace's mom - this is Tales we're talking about after all, and things always work out. So yeah, I've been meaning to share this with you guys because it totally got me thinking of alternate versions of Ace that could work on the show (plus I think this sort of storyline would have fit in rather well on the show). Maybe tone down a bit of the drama with the alternate mom, but this could work. I have been thinking of writing it as a story (with them as actual ponies, which will be a little hard for me as it's been so long since I've descriptively written pony characters), but we'll see if that will ever happen.

But heavy metal music is just so... loud! XD I'm aware that the shy ones might like such, but it just doesn't fit for me. I could picture her and Sweetheart both liking those doofy romance songs that seem to be everywhere throughout history, because Sweetheart's a romantic and Bon Bon has awful luck with dating.
The point aside, I could definitely picture Bon Bon and Teddy being closet buddies over a shared difficulty with school, a shared love of cookies, and on a deeper level, about their own insecurity. But there's still the whole stigma surrounding Teddy with Bon's friends, where she's trying to be accepted, and... yeah.
(Messaging exists)I'm quite accustomed to sociopaths and their ways, as my dad's a textbook definition of it with the charisma and all to go with it. Ace is a subdued version in the show to the average viewer. I mean, he manipulates those around him to do his bidding, but using more of his charm than anything else. He's more of a brat to be sure, and will likely work out this problem, but there's just a touch of it in there.
Sweet story idea, though! It does fit. (3 Definitely sounds like the type of thing they might do on Tales, though with a tiny bit more emphasis on the "on-the-inside-that-counts" rather than just the cool son thing. But ACE WEARS A TOP-HAT? That sounds terrific! 8D8D8D Ace sure could rock that fancy look, haha!
Ever since I indexed the items in Patch's room, she had at least one fancy red top-hat, and the strange thought of her wearing a tuxedo popped up. I thought it would make way for hilarity, if not adorableness. (Or the combined seduction power of two normal Aces 0///0). The idea's evolved a bit to being a practical joke-centered yellow one, but WHY do I think of this stuff when I know very well that it'll never happen?! )8,l At least someone wore a cool top hat.
But back to the point, that would be such a cool story. SO cool.

Firstly, Mohawk + top hat = win. Secondly, have to say that while I wasn't that crazy about Ace's character (liked Teddy and nice guy Lancer better), you're certainly winning me over with all of your ideas and enthusiasm for the character.

Yeah I think we just have differing ideas of Bon Bon's future (I personally can see her becoming a little more rebellious in her teen years, given the whole middle child of a big family thing). Ace definitely does have the beginnings of sociopathic tendencies, I agree with you on that. You could take him in directions that will further it, but I personally view him in a way where that behaviour will mellow out as he gets older. Bobdude - glad to hear you're warming to him! I've pretty much always been in this kind of position from the beginning of the fandom - no one liked Ace, but after listening to me ramble about him they started to like him. He's my personal crusade.

Yeah, I'll agree with you on that. I could picture the poor girl dealing with major depression in different bouts throughout her adolescence, and not really working out her self-esteem issues until her later teen years. Rebellion is probable, considering her mischievous streak (Too Sick to Notice).
I don't know where to take him... not all ponies are nice, as we're all aware, but he really does have the makings of a nice dude. I dunno. And I could tell that you've converted ponies in the past, for some reason. it just seemed likely.
